Not Here for the Tennis

“You look like you’re about to play some tennis!” Jab.
Those were the last words I heard before receiving my second COVID-19 vaccine dose. The nurse was commenting on my new favorite hobby: dressing up like a tennis player.
I’ve never had any real interest in tennis; I grew up swimming. Swimming forces you to be comfortable with yourself. Any makeup will smear, any jewelry will tarnish.
I’ve always been jealous of the cute sports. Soccer gets 5-inch shorts and knee socks. Cross country gets windbreakers and short-shorts. Volleyball gets bike shorts, and basketball– well, basketball’s just a hot sport. The hottest, in my opinion. I’ll be a WNBA wife one day, mark my words
So, now, as a washed-up swimmer, I choose to dress like a tennis player (with an emphasis on the skirts). Take athleisure, but subtract the ‘ath.’ We’re not here for the tennis.
The story of a tennis girl with an attitude
She’s ready to play.
She’s doing so well!
She loses a point :(
She won’t have it!
The argument gets heated.
But, luckily, they make up!
She has a history of bad behavior on the court. Things like:
Fighting over the racket…
Mixing up equipment…
But she’s a great teammate.
She helps other players with their form…
Their lip gloss.
Her teammates are always willing to help her back. With her nails…
With her water…
But we’re not here for the tennis.
